Man Kills Daughter Over An Argument About Manners
On the morning of April 19, the 39-year-old victim, Alanda Cuffee, and her mother, Yvonne Pelzer, were working in the kitchen. It was then that the suspect James Pelzer, tried to walk around the victim.
Yvonne Pelzer asked her daughter to move, and she did not. Instead, Cuffee replied, “Well, mama, he could say excuse me.” Hearing this, Pelzer got triggered and simply walked out of the kitchen. He later returned with a handgun.

Without warning, Pelzer immediately began firing at Alanda Cuffee. The arrest report states that he fired four times. He did not explain why he opened fire and ignored his wife’s pleas to stop.
As per reports, Pelzer asked Yvonne to “be quiet” as he fired round after round at Cuffee. The wife reportedly began to pray out loud as her daughter succumbed to her injuries. He reportedly also told his wife not to call out emergency services.

Suspect Suffered From Anger Issues In The Past
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Alanda Cuffee lying unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. James Pelzer was found kneeling in the street as a deputy pointed a gun at him.
The suspect reportedly admitted to the shooting. Pelzer told deputies, “I messed up bad. I messed up badly.” Meanwhile, the victim’s mother, Yvonne Pelzer, told authorities that her husband had anger issues.
Deputies were told that James Pelzer had previously threatened to use his gun in past incidents. However, he had not been physically violent or threatened to use it against his wife or her daughter.
Deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office later recovered the weapon, a handgun placed on top of a Bible near the front door. Pelzer was arrested the same day at his home and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Alanda Cuffee. According to the arrest report, he is being held at the Escambia County Jail without bond.
Chip Simmons said, “It stemmed from some sort of disturbance regarding walking around in the kitchen. And not getting enough clearance to walk and asking him to say 'excuse me' whenever they're walking in that kitchen area.”
Meanwhile, friends and family of Alanda Cuffee remembered her as a loving person who cared deeply for her mother and those close to her.
