Around 5:45 p.m. on May 23, deputies forced entry into a home in Gainesville after a male victim called 911 to report his roommate, Omar Gutierrez, 32, stabbed him in the neck, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said.
Once officers arrived at the scene, they noticed blood pouring from the victim’s neck. He was transported to the hospital for treatment, but no updates were given on his condition, according to WCJB-TV.
An arrest report states Gutierrez told his roommate he stabbed him because “it was instinctual,” WCJB reported.
Gutierrez accused his roommate of hurting his cat, but the roommate says that is not true, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office said they “exchanged Gutierrez’s cat costume for a green and white striped jumpsuit.”
He was booked into the Alachua County Jail and is being held on a $1 million bond.
