A man in Florida has been arrested after he allegedly fatally shot his aunt’s boyfriend over an argument regarding his mishandling of a gun, authorities said.

The incident occurred at an apartment complex in Casselberry at around 11 p.m. on July 27, WESH reported.

According to police, 22-year-old Joel Ferrer and 41-year-old David Jackson, the boyfriend of Ferrer’s 32-year-old aunt, got into a heated argument regarding Ferrer’s alleged mishandling of a gun.

Police said Ferrer shot Jackson several times and then he ran off.

Jackson was rushed to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery, but he did not survive.

A warrant was issued for Ferrer’s arrest on a second-degree murder charge and a search began for him, authorities said.

Around 10:30 a.m. on July 29, Ferrer turned himself in at the Casselberry Police Department, according to officials.

He appeared before a Seminole County judge on July 30 and was denied bail. He is due in court again on August 29.
