A Florida man has been sentenced after he attempted to run over a man whom he had mistakenly believed to be a registered sex offender, according to authorities.

In January, 45-year-old Kinte Franklin was in a vehicle outside an Escambia County liquor store when he saw the victim.

Franklin stated, “I’m going to kill you because you are a convicted child molester,” and then he proceeded to run over the victim’s legs, NorthEscambia.com reported.

The victim’s wife claimed she heard a passenger in Franklin’s vehicle say, “You just need to run over this motherf*****, you just need to kill him,” according to court documents.

Authorities were able to obtain surveillance footage from the liquor store, which showed Franklin circling the parking lot multiple times before pulling up to the victim to say something.

Franklin then pulled into a parking spot before he backed out and drove forward to repeatedly hit the victim with his car, authorities said.

While Franklin claimed the victim was a registered sex offender, records show the victim is not, NorthEscambia.com reported.

In February, Franklin was arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery using a deadly weapon, officials said.

He eventually pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and was sentenced last week to probation.
