Florida man gets into fight and then allegedly fatally stabs man who tried to break it up, police say

A Florida man is behind bars for second-degree murder after he allegedly got into a fight and then fatally stabbed a man who tried to break it up, police said.

Shortly after 1 a.m. on Jan. 22, Israel Perez, 46, got into an altercation in Hialeah and a man police said he knew intervened, states an arrest report obtained by WPLG.

Perez and the man who tried to help then got into a separate physical fight. When the two fell to the ground, Perez was on top of him and allegedly stabbed him multiple times, including in the chest, torso and thigh, police said in the report.

After the incident, surveillance video allegedly shows Perez fleeing the scene on a bicycle, police said.

The victim was airlifted to Miami's Jackson Memorial Ryder Trauma Center, where doctors used over 30 metal staples and five stitches to close his wounds. The victim was able to give police a sworn statement at the hospital before he died from his injuries.

Perez was arrested on Jan. 25 and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a charge of second-degree murder.
