Florida Woman Opens Fire at Teens’ Car After Violent Park Altercation, Arrested

The situation began as a physical altercation between three juveniles that soon escalated.
A 43-year-old Florida woman was arrested after she opened fire at a car full of teenagers during a fight at a public park, according to officials.
The incident happened on April 1 at around 4:30 p.m. at Lake Betty Park in Port Charlotte. Deputies rushed to the scene after receiving reports of multiple gunshots. When they arrived, they found evidence of a shooting linked to a fight between several teens.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said the situation began as a physical fight involving three juveniles. During the altercation, one of the teens called Lakeshia Taylor for help. When Taylor arrived at the park, she saw the caller lying on the ground. At the same time, four other teens were getting into a car and trying to flee the scene.

According to Baller Alert, instead of calling 911 or seeking help from authorities, Taylor pulled out a gun. Investigators said she later confirmed firing three rounds at the car as it drove away. She told deputies she wanted to stop the teens from leaving.
The vehicle was later found with bullet holes in the driver’s side and the rear hatch. No injuries were reported, but officials said the situation could have turned deadly.
Deputies took Taylor into custody at the scene, and she was later booked into the Charlotte County Jail. She remains there without bond on charges of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
Sheriff Bill Prummel said the juvenile should have dialed 911 when the situation escalated.
Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummel said the incident involved a series of poor choices. He stressed that the use of a gun made an already tense situation far more dangerous.
“There were several poor decisions made in this situation, and we are fortunate that this did not become deadly. Regardless of the reason for the juveniles to have been fighting, they need to learn how to manage their emotions and walk away. The call made by the juvenile should have been to 911, which would have resulted in my deputies arriving quickly and preventing a lot of this mess. Lastly, discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle is not only a dangerous crime, but to do it at a public park is even more reckless. There is no excuse for endangering the lives of innocent people,” Prummel said.
He called the act of firing at a vehicle in a public place reckless. The investigation is still going on.
