A teen told her youth pastor about her sexual fantasies and their conversations took a turn to crime when the two were in a hotel room, near-naked, and only the made walking in ended the encounter.

The scandalous details of the alleged abuse were described at length in an arrest announcement from the Polk County (Florida) Sheriff's Office this week.

Andrew Pierce Weaver, 29, was taken into custody on June 7. He worked as a youth pastor at Highlands Church of Christ in Lakeland, Florida, according to the sheriff's office.

On June 3, staff from the church contacted deputies to report Weaver may have engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old girl in his youth group.

The alleged contact occurred for about five months between September 2020 and January 2021, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim told detectives Weaver had been giving her informal guidance and that she told him that she had sexual fantasies.

The married Weaver asked if any of the fantasies involved him, and she told him they were, according to the sheriff's office.

The arrest affidavit stated the victim showed Weaver naked pictures of herself on her cell phone. Weaver would “frequently ask to see these pictures” but told her never to transmit them electronically.

The victim believed he told her not to send the pictures to avoid getting in trouble, and he asked her to keep their relationship secret, according to the sheriff's office.

In late December or early January, the teen drove to the church and met Weaver. He asked her about getting a hotel room and the two went to a Best Western. They were there for approximately 30 minutes and were “naked from the waist up” in their room, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim said she and Weaver were making out, and he touched and kissed her breasts, according to the sheriff's office.

Weaver and the victim were interrupted by a maid knocking on the door. That allegedly startled Weaver, and the duo put their clothes on and returned to the church.

The victim told police she believed their sexual contact would have continued if they had not been interrupted.

During an interview with police, Weaver said that he believed he had “crossed a line” with the victim and that he was closer to her emotionally than he should have been, according to the sheriff's office.

He also confessed to driving with the victim and discussing more of her sexual fantasies.

He said he “struggles with impulse control” and drove them both to the hotel. Records from the Best Western confirm that Weaver checked into the hotel on Dec. 29, 2020.

"Youth ministers are entrusted with mentoring our children,” Sheriff Grady Judd said in announcing the arrest. “This minister betrayed that trust and he must be held accountable. Thankfully, the church leadership did the right thing by reporting his inappropriate behavior."

Weaver was charged with attempted unlawful sex with a minor and interference with child custody because he took her to the hotel with the intent to have sex with the teen.

He is currently in the Polk County jail and being held without bond set in his case.
