Texas Teacher Accused of Having Sex With Student, 14, in Car, Sending Nude Photos on Instagram: Court Docs

A former teacher in Houston has been arrested after investigators claimed he had sexual contact with underage students while he was still teaching.

According to court documents obtained by KHOU, Reginald Van Long, 27, was teaching at the Academy of Accelerated Learning, a chartered middle school, when the alleged crimes involving at least five students occurred.

The court records allege Long had made inappropriate comments while talking to multiple students on social media. One student told authorities Long communicated with her mainly on Instagram and called her “sexy mama” at least once.

Long reached out to another student, who was 14 at the time, on social media and ended up meeting her at her house in Houston in December of 2022, according to the documents.

The student alleged to authorities they had sex in the backseat of his car, and then about 10 months later, they had sex again while in her bedroom at her house. Security footage allegedly shows Long climbing through the girl’s bedroom window, court documents state.

When interviewed by investigators, Long allegedly admitted to having sex with at least one of his students and sending sexual images to several other students on Instagram, the documents claim.

Court documents claim Long also encouraged a 12-year-old student to leave school so he could have sex with her.

According to records, Long’s teaching certificate expired almost four years ago. The superintendent where Long worked said they let him go last summer after they learned about the allegations.

Long faces multiple felony charges, including counts of sexual assault of a child under 17, improper relationship with a student, and online solicitation of a minor, officials said.

He was booked into the Smith County jail, and his bond was set at $400,000.
