The gunshot victim, identified as 21-year-old Chadrick Coats, was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced dead, WFOR-TV reported.

Investigators determined the victim allegedly was shoplifting from the store when employee Derrick Guerrero, a former U.S. Marine sergeant, confronted him.

Police said the victim was running toward the door with around $500 worth of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Ultra-Premium Collection trading cards in his possession when Guerrero, 33, allegedly pulled out a concealed gun and fired one shot into the victim’s torso.
