6-year-old dies after being found covered in bruises. Mom, boyfriend accused of murder.

A 6-year-old boy in Georgia was found covered in bruises and his mom and her boyfriend face murder charges after the child died, police say.

On June 13, Henry County police responded to Belmont Farms Drive for an unconscious 6-year-old. Officers found the boy who had shallow breathing, was unresponsive and had blood coming from his mouth.

EMS tried to provide aid to the boy and took him to the hospital, according to police.

Hospital staff told police that bruises covered a majority of the child’s body. The child was taken by helicopter to another hospital, where he was put on life support, according to police.

Arrest

Officers arrested the boy’s mother — DeShante Lawshawn Beard, 33 — and her boyfriend — Less Thompson, 29 —on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to children.

On June 16, the child was taken off life support, police said.

Police then changed the charges against the two adults to malice murder and felony murder in connection to the boy’s death.

Officials did not detail how the boy was bruised or what led them to accuse the mom and boyfriend of hurting the child.
