A Georgia woman was arrested in connection with the death of her 6-year-old son, who was found fatally stabbed inside their burning home, according to authorities.
Around 8 a.m. on Oct. 19, first responders responded to an apartment fire in Springs Lanes after a resident on an upper floor called for help, according to Gwinnett County Police.
Officials said firefighters entered the burning apartment and found an unresponsive boy, who appeared to have multiple stab wounds. First responders believed the boy was about 6 years old.
The boy, later identified as Jayveon Pruitt, was the only person inside the apartment at the time. He was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officers then found a woman with wet clothes behind the apartment building. She was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and was later questioned by police.
The 23-year-old woman, A’zaria Shante Burton, was determined to be Pruitt's mother, police said.
