A woman was found dead after a domestic incident and police said they arrested the suspected killer.
Last week, police in Swainsboro, Georgia, announced the arrest of Kelvin Kirkland, 51.
Shortly after midnight on Nov. 10, police were dispatched to a shots fired call. When they arrived, officers found a woman lying face down next to a vehicle.
Officers tried to provide care, but the victim was pronounced dead. She was identified as Johnnie Starnes, 52, police said.
Witnesses said there was a domestic dispute between Kirkland and Starnes that led to the shooting. There was no word on what the dispute was about.
Kirkland ran from the area and was caught about 30 minutes later.
Authorities charged him with murder, cruelty to children and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
“This case is an example of how domestic violence related incidences often time turns to tragedy,” police said in announcing the arrest. “Swainsboro Police Department encourages those individuals involved with domestic violence to please request the assistance of the vast array of resources that are available to those individuals involved in these types of relationships.
