Two People Were Shot And Killed In Georgia. The Suspect Was Just Arrested In Another State.

A man suspected of murdering two people in Georgia was arrested April 20 in neighboring Alabama, according to police.

Last week, Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman announced the arrest of Elijah Smith. He is accused of killing Marque Humber and Nakevius Petty, according to WTVM in Alabama.

The Muscogee County Sheriff's Office Drug, Gang and Fugitive Task Force teamed with the Phenix City Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations Task Force to make the arrest.

Smith had two outstanding warrants from the Columbus Police Department in Georgia for two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Smith was taken to the Russell County Jail without incident and is awaiting extradition to Muscogee County.

At about 6:30 p.m. April 10, Columbus police were called to Fort Benning Road in reference to a shooting, WTVM reports. Officers found Humber and Petty suffering from gunshot wounds and they were taken to the hospital, where they later died int he emergency room.

On April 11, police obtained warrants for Smith.
