Georgia Teacher, 25, Arrested in Shocking School Closet Incident Involving Student

A Georgia teacher was arrested on May 8 for allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student. According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), the science teacher allegedly 'hooked up' with a student inside a closet on school property.

Maris Nichols, 25, worked as a biology teacher at Alexander High School in Douglasville. According to investigators, Nichols had s----- intercourse with the student at least two times over a two-week period.

According to arrest warrants obtained by 11Alive, the first alleged incident took place on April 23. The incident occurred inside a closet between classrooms. The same student was allegedly involved in another incident with Nichols inside a Hummer parked in a residential driveway in Douglasville. It remains unclear who the vehicle belonged to and whose house it was parked in front of.

Nichols is being held in Douglas County Jail on a $40,000 bond. She was charged with two counts of s----- assault by a person with supervisory or disciplinary authority.

The district announced earlier in May that a female teacher was placed on leave pending an investigation. At that time, it was not confirmed whether the teacher in question was Nichols.

However, Nichol's profile was removed from the Alexander High School website. In a letter to parents, the Douglas County School System said, “Upon learning of the alleged misconduct, the district immediately launched an investigation. Student safety is the district’s highest priority. The alleged behavior is unacceptable and violates the professional standards all employees are required to uphold.”

The incident has affected Nichols’ career trajectory. She started as the football operations manager at Alexander High School in April 2023. Then, she was hired as a biology teacher in May the same year. According to her LinkedIn profile, Nichols held both roles at the school simultaneously.

Nichol's earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Liberty University. The university enforces a strict fraternization policy. According to Liberty University website, the Christian school linked with the Southern Baptist Convention of Virginia strictly expects students “to abstain from s----- activity outside of a biblically ordained marriage.”
