Ghislaine Maxwell’s niece, Matilda Munro, has allegedly lost her job in the aftermath of the Epstein Files’ release. The 41-year-old worked as a school governor in London. According to the Daily Mail, she was reportedly forced to resign after a letter she wrote became public, in which she vouched for her aunt and called for her release from prison.

The letter was written in November 2020, when Maxwell was locked up in New York's Metropolitan Detention Center and was awaiting trial. However, it was only declassified in the latest batch of Epstein-related documents released by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

In the letter, addressed to New York District Court Judge Alison Nathan, Munro argued that Maxwell should be granted bail pending trial, saying she posed ‘no danger to the public.’ Munro cited various factors, from unsatisfactory living conditions at the jail to the emotional trauma faced by Maxwell’s stepchild, to support her request for bail.

“For any trial to be fair, she must have the opportunity to defend herself and to do that, she needs a functioning mind - solitary confinement since July and potentially until next July surely puts that at risk. I understand you are balancing any perceived risk against the odds of her fleeing - she is of no danger to the public,” Munro wrote.

As the COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak, Munro argued that Maxwell should be allowed to see her family during ‘extraordinary times.’ She wrote, “This loss of all our liberties, I think, has had the impact of making us all reflect on what liberties it is we most value - the ability to see our families and friends; the ability to hug them; the ability to feed ourselves and do exercise.”

Munro added that Maxwell was receiving ‘unjust’ treatment in jail, and assured that her aunt had no intentions of fleeing the country. In the end, she talked about her own childhood experience, when her father and Maxwell’s brother, Kevin Maxwell, were imprisoned for fraud.

has step-children. She highlighted that her father was granted bail pending trial, which allowed him to spend precious time with his family. “Ghislaine has step-children, not granting her bail takes her out of their lives for more months, so they end up also being punished by this current situation,” Munro remarked.

However, the letter seems to have backfired all these years later. Munro stepped down from Columbia Primary School’s Local Governing Board on March 27, 2026. The school authorities did not officially announce that Munro was fired over the letter; instead, they thanked her for her service in a newsletter to parents.

Maxwell, a former girlfriend and longtime associate of Jeffrey Epstein, was convicted of s– trafficking of minors in 2021. She was found guilty of recruiting and grooming girls for Epstein, some of whom were as young as 14. Maxwell is currently serving her 20-year sentence at the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Bryan in Texas, but continues to challenge her conviction and seek clemency.
