A man in Texas has been arrested after authorities say he allegedly gunned down three family members and then called 911 to say he’d shot three burglars in a home invasion.

Around 3:15 p.m. on June 22, Bryan J. Fernandez Hernandez, 27, called 911 and identified himself as the tenant in the Houston apartment, according to the Houston Police Department.

Officers arrived at the scene and Fernandez Hernandez admitted to shooting the “three home invaders,” officials said.

Investigators soon determined that there had been no home invasion, but Fernandez Hernandez had shot and killed three members of his own family and then lied to dispatchers in the 911 call.

Audio recordings between police officers and dispatchers were obtained by KPRC, which showed an officer stating Fernandez Hernandez has schizophrenia.

Police have not released the identities of the three victims — a 38-year-old man, a 43-year-old woman and a 65-year-old woman — but they noted the older woman was a family member who lived in the apartment and the other two were family members from Canada who had been staying there for several days.

Officials said they had been called to this apartment several times in the past for calls regarding mental health.

One neighbor told KPRC, “Everything seemed normal to me. I would have never guessed it. I mean, I never saw him for more than five minutes. Either I was going up the stairs, he was probably coming down the stairs and we would just cross paths.”
