“I Want Justice For Him”— Mother Breaks Down After NYC Teen Brutally Stabbed By Stranger

A New York teen was fatally stabbed outside a Bronx building on April 29, and now his mother is fighting for justice for her son. She told the New York Post that her son was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, which led to the tragedy.

The boy has been identified as Jonathan Melo, 17. He was stabbed in the back by a stranger on Wednesday afternoon. His mother, Raquel Melo, told The Post that he had great ambitions. Jonathan wanted to graduate from high school and pursue a career in real estate.

Melo wanted to help her mom get “out of the hood.” However, he met a tragic end. In an emotional interview, his grieving mother said, “From my knowledge my son was at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

She told the outlet, "Jonathan was so full of life. He was the clown of the house, he was so vivacious. He always wanted to be active and loved basketball. He loved working out. That was something new that his father and him were bonding over, and he loved his family.”

Reflecting on the attack on the teenager that claimed his life, Raquel said, “I know that this was an incredibly savage thing to be done.” She added, “I want justice for him to be done, so I’m gonna keep stepping forward and speaking up about my son and how he was, so that there are no false narratives out there made about him. I want people to know that there’s such a thing as raising good kids in the Bronx, too, and he was one of them.”

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on April 29. Melo was found with a stab wound in his back outside a Beach Avenue building in Soundview. According to authorities, he was rushed to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi. His mother said he was in surgery for about 30 minutes. However, shortly after, he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said there was an argument that led to the fatal stabbing. However, law enforcement is still unclear about what triggered the dispute because the attacker and victim were strangers. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Raquel also noted that she is not sure what actually happened. The family is now scrambling for money for his funeral expenses.
