Indiana man allegedly stabbed his wife 40 times with a kitchen knife over suspicions of an affair.

A 35-year-old Indiana man, Taylor James Meyer, was convicted of murdering his wife, Deborah Meyer, by a jury in January 2026. According to authorities, the victim was found stabbed 40 times with a kitchen knife.

According to authorities, Meyer confessed to police that he killed his wife, saying their marriage had been strained after he saw a photo of her holding hands with another man one month earlier, as reported by Law&Crime.

“He is a narcissistic psychopath, and he only cares about himself,” the victim’s best friend, Emily Durbin, said during Meyer's sentencing hearing on April 17.

“I would like to go ahead and count to 40, to be sure he knows how many times he had the opportunity to stop while he was in the act. Not just before, when he beat her and choked her unconscious too,” Durbin said.

Durbin then counted to 40 with no visible reaction from the defendant.

The accused told investigator that the couple had argued on the day of the murder because he had taken time to prepare a Valentine’s Day meal that she did not appreciate. “It was the hardest I have ever tried,” Meyer said after he was arrested.

The victim’s brother, Albert North, told the court through tears what happened after her death. “Less than five hours after police knocked on my door and woke me up, I was in your house, cutting the bloody carpet up from where you killed her.”

Speaking about the couple’s children, North addressed the defendant directly. “They will never know your name, they will never know your face,” North said. “They will have her last name, and they will never be burdened by yours,” he said.

Meyer’s defense attorney told the court that he had no witnesses to present at sentencing because no one was willing to appear. “In my mind, it might be appropriate to do some investigation as to why that is,” the attorney said.

“That obviously would be a significant criminal offense of obstruction of justice if that has, in fact, happened.”

The defense attorney questioned each of the victim’s family members who delivered victim impact statements about potential involvement in harassment, which each witness denied.

The defendant addressed the courtroom, saying that he was a “good citizen” before his wife’s death. “I was a polite, friendly, and respectful person,” Meyer said. He added that he loved his wife and missed her. Even though many people might think I am evil, I don’t consider myself evil,” he said.

“I did a horrendous thing in a fit of rage. Of course, I regret it, and I would change it in a heartbeat if I had the power,” Meyer said.
