A dispute over a wallet let to a deadly shooting and two people being put in handcuffs, according to a report.
Recently, police in South Bend, Indiana, announced two arrest in connection to the deadly encounter. Mikail Martinez, 23, was charged with felony murder, battery resulting in bodily injury and resisting law enforcement. Kyle Johnson was charged with assisting a criminal.
The victim was identified as Lawrence Witzke.
On Nov. 11, Martinez went to a bar and saw a former coworker, according to WNDU.
The two spoke before Martinez left to take a call and left his wallet on the bar. Martinez came back in and said he had to leave. He left his wallet in the bar.
The friend who had the wallet then got a call from his sister who was with Martinez, according to WNDU. The man told Martinez he was holding the wallet and gave him an address to pick it up.
When Martinez arrived, the friend gave the wallet back to Martinez who claimed items were removed, the station noted. The man suggested they check the car he left in the bar in. There, they found the missing items.
Martinez then hit the friend of the order, knocking him to the ground, WNDU reported.
The man’s roommate, Witzke, then came out and told Martinez to leave, according to the report. Martinez hit the friend again. He then fired shots and hit Witzke.
Martinez then left the scene with Johnson, and they got stuck near a construction site. Johnson surrendered, and Martinez was arrested after a short chase.
