According to the charge information in the Brown County Jail’s online record, the strangulation and suffocation charge is a felony, and the other charges against Jacobs are misdemeanors.

In a statement, Renkas said, “This remains an active and ongoing investigation. No further information will be released at this time.” Jacobs was taken into custody after police responded to a complaint involving him on May 24 at 8:37 a.m.

Following his arrest, David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld, and Clarence Duchac, the lawyers representing Jacobs, released a joint statement. They said, “Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of investigation with important evidence that has not yet been made public. We ask for fairness and restraint while the judicial process takes its course.”

A spokesperson for the Packers said, “We are aware of the matter involving Josh Jacobs. As it is an ongoing legal situation, we will withhold further comment.” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy also released a similar statement. “We are aware of the report and have been in contact with the club,” he said.

Jacobs is considered to be the Packers’ top returning rusher. He has run for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns in the last season. In 2024, he ran for 1329 yards and 15 touchdowns in a season, leading to his third Pro Bowl selection.

In addition, Jacobs is the only player on Green Bay’s roster who ran for as many as 200 yards for the Packers last season.

In his seven-year career, Jacobs has rushed for 7803 yards and 74 touchdowns. He is now the only active player with more career touchdown runs than Baltimore’s Derrick Henry, who has 122, and Buffalo’s Josh Allen, who rushed for 79.
