Juvenile arrested for shooting and killing middle schooler in Virginia, authorities say

A juvenile was arrested for shooting and killing a middle schooler in Virginia last week.

The victim was shot in the Gayton Forest West subdivision, not far from her home, according to the Henrico Citizen.  The victim was identified by the family as Quioccasin Middle School student Lucia W. Bremer, according to the Henrico Citizen. 

Bremer was taken to the hospital for her injuries, but later died.

The suspect has not been named due to his age. He was arrested the day after the shooting, according to Henrico County police. 

Officers have not released any details on what led to the shooting or if the suspect knew if they were firing a loaded gun.

Bremer’s family released this statement on Facebook on Saturday morning: “Thank you for keeping our family in your thoughts as we navigate the next few weeks.”

The shooting led to a temporary lockdown of Godwin High School while police searched for the shooter, according to The Roanoke Times.

Police charged the suspect with second-degree murder, posession of a firearm by a juvenile and use of a firearm in the commision of a felony.
