Dad tried to stop his son from stealing his trailer, but was shot and killed: report

A man stole his father's trailer and then shot and killed his dad as he tried to stop the heist, police said.

Richard Reno, 38, was recently charged with the murder of Kevin Watts, WLKY reported.

This week, police in Bullitt County, Kentucky, were called to a crash and found a white Dodge Ram pulling a black enclosed trailer had struck a tree. There was also a dark blue Dodge Charger that had collided with the trailer, according to WLKY.

Detectives say Watts heard the trailer being stolen from his Bullitt County home, and he jumped into his Charger to chase the thieves.

The thieves fled in a truck with the trailer being pulled behind, WLKY reported.

The stolen truck crashed on Woodsdale Road, and Watts hit the trailer, according to WLKY.

At some point in the incident, Watts was fired upon and shot, WLKY reported.

Watts was found with a single gunshot wound, and he died at the scene, according to WLKY.

Reno has been charged with murder and robbery and is being held in the Bullitt County Detention Center, WLKY reported.
