A Texas mother reportedly headed out on a cruise for six days while leaving her two young kids home alone during that time, according to authorities.

According to court documents obtained by KHOU-TV, Lakesha Woods Williams, 29, left the children inside her luxury high-rise apartment in Houston for six days while she went on the cruise between April 4 and 10.

On April 9, a neighbor was concerned about the welfare of the kids and called the Harris County Constable’s Office.

Neighbors told police that they saw Williams leave the building with luggage, but she did not return.

Police entered the apartment and found the two children by themselves. The kids, an 8-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl, told deputies their mom was away on the cruise and did not know when she would be back.

Officials said the apartment was in “disarray.” There was food and garbage thrown around the apartment and it smelled like urine.

Williams reportedly used a camera to watch her kids and talk with them. The boy also used a phone to text with his mom, authorities said.

Police tried to contact Williams while she was away, but she was not being cooperative and gave inconsistent responses.

In a statement, Constable Ted Heap said, “We are still putting together the facts and circumstances of how these children were left alone for several days. But the important thing is they are safe now and those responsible should be held accountable for leaving these kids in an unsafe situation.”

Neighbors said this isn’t the first time Williams has left the children alone. One neighbor said, “Many of the residents were worried about the children and have said this is not the first time that something like this has occurred,” according to KTRK-TV.
