A man was arrested in Las Vegas after police say they saw a woman mouth the words “HELP ME” as a vehicle drove near them during a traffic stop.

Around 9 p.m. on Feb. 20, officers were conducting the stop in Las Vegas when an SUV passed by, according to an arrest report obtained by KSNV.

An officer said they saw an adult female in the passenger seat of the SUV stick her head out the window and mouth the words “HELP ME” as the vehicle drove by the officers.

The officers left the traffic stop and headed after the SUV. Officials said the driver ignored them, despite lights and sirens, and fled at a high rate of speed.

The SUV crashed after the driver headed north on the southbound lanes of US 95.

The arrest report states the driver, later identified as 28-year-old Nathaniel Foutch-Pratt, refused officers’ orders to get out of the vehicle and he was seen trying to strangle the woman.

Body cameras from the police caught Foutch-Pratt yelling, “She has to die tonight,” according to the arrest report.

Foutch-Pratt resisted and fought the officers as they dragged him from the vehicle and took him into custody.

After the arrest, officials determined the couple, who were on a road trip from Illinois to California, had been involved in a domestic incident at The STRAT Hotel & Casino, where security reportedly stopped Foutch-Pratt for a “paranoia episode.”

The victim, whose name was not released, told police that while at the hotel, Foutch-Pratt started acting paranoid and insisted “she was assisting the government in spying,” the arrest report says.

Hotel security briefly detained the couple, but let them go. The victim said they then went to find marijuana.

After leaving the hotel, the woman said they were driving around when Foutch-Pratt “told her she needed to die.” He reportedly took her phone, hit her, and refused to stop, which is when she started trying to signal other drivers for help.

Foutch-Pratt was charged with multiple counts, including kidnapping, and attempted murder, officials said.

He was given a $50,000 bond and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 12.
