On April 19, friends found Amy Mack, 40, dead inside her home with gunshot wounds to her neck and upper body.

Court records show John Ellis, 30, was identified as a suspect in Mack’s death when he left for San Antonio, Texas, after her death, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said.

During the investigation, officials determined Ellis had been staying with Mack “for some time” before she was killed.

Investigators said they found a bill of sale for a Glock 9mm handgun inside the residence, which was sold to Ellis in 2017.

After the shooting, Mack’s vehicle was missing and Ellis was last seen driving away from the residence in the car, police said.

Officials also got Ellis' phone records, which showed he left Las Vegas for San Antonio immediately after Mack was killed.

Ellis was charged with open murder, battery and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, authorities said. He is in custody in the Clark County Detention Center and being held without bail.
