Lawyer Reveals Why Rex Heuermann Finally Admitted to Killing Eight Women

Rex Heuermann Pleads Guilty
Rex Heuermann maintained his innocence for eight years. Then, he suddenly confessed to brutally killing eight s-x workers. His lawyers have given two key reasons that made him confess to the crimes.
Heuermann, known as the Long Island serial killer, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder charges for brutally killing Amber Lynn Costello, 27; Megan Waterman, 22; Melissa Barthelemy, 24; Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25; Valerie Mack, 24; Jessica Taylor, 20; and Sandra Costilla, 28.

On Wednesday, he admitted to strangling the eight women who worked as s-x workers. Between 1993 and 2010, he dismembered the bodies of these women before dumping them along the barren stretches near Gilgo Beach.
Michael J. Brown, who is representing Heuermann, said he pleaded guilty to spare himself and the victims’ families a devastating trial that would have repeated the grisly details of his crimes.
Brown told reporters outside the Suffolk County court, “He certainly wanted to save the families of the victims the ordeal of going to trial, coupled with saving his family that ordeal — it was definitely a factor.”
The lawyer added that Heuermann decided to confess after Judge Timothy Mazzei ruled that all DNA evidence would be used at trial. The judge also refused to separate the charges into multiple trials, saying the evidence was “overwhelming.”
Apart from the aforementioned seven victims, the serial killer also confessed to killing Karen Vergata in 1996. This murder was previously not linked to Heuermann. His sentencing is set for June 17. He would be serving three life sentences without the chance of parole.
His lawyer said that Heuermann’s plea deal also includes assisting the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit with other serial killing investigations. Heuermann will have to help investigators understand the motives, while also unveiling what is going on inside a serial killer’s disturbed mind.
The sadistic father of two’s legal team believes that the plea deal also spares his family from being sued by the victims’ families. In this way, Asa Ellerup, his estranged wife, and Victoria Heuermann would not have to face potential liability in the pending.
