Long Island Home-Care Agency Blames 84-Year-Old Dementia Patient After Aide’s Alleged Stabbing

Aides at Home told the court that its staff did not act negligently in caring for a dementia patient.
In October 2025, a home health aide was arrested for allegedly stabbing the elderly patient she was supposed to care for in Massapequa. The incident was captured on camera, and the aide, Amanda Fraser, was charged with attempted murder.
However, the agency that had employed Fraser has claimed that the elderly patient, 84-year-old Wendy Wilson, suffered stab wounds because of her own conduct. The agency, Aides at Home, told the court that its staff did not act negligently in caring for the dementia patient.
Aides at Home Blames Dementia Patient For Her Injuries
Aides at Home said Wilson suffered because of her own ‘culpable conduct without any negligence’ from staff.
In April, Wilson’s family filed a lawsuit against Aides at Home, alleging negligence by the agency and its employees. According to the lawsuit, the nonprofit did not conduct a thorough background check on its staff, which could have disclosed Fraser’s alleged violent tendencies.
In response, the nonprofit said that Wilson suffered because of her own ‘culpable conduct without any negligence’ from staff. Fraser had been hired to take care of Wilson during the night as she struggled with dementia.

However, on the night of October 29, 2025, Fraser allegedly got into the elderly woman’s bed and stabbed her in the chest. Surveillance camera footage showed Fraser holding the knife in Wilson’s body for 16 minutes while Wilson cried in pain.
Meanwhile, she repeatedly whispered that the woman should succumb. When Wilson survived, Fraser allegedly left her to bleed and fled in her car. Wilson was found six hours later by another aide who had arrived for the morning shift.
Wilson was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center, where doctors determined she had suffered a punctured lung and an infection from the stab wound. Wilson was treated for her critical injuries for about a week before being discharged.
Wilson’s Lawyer Slams Aides at Home
After Aides at Home claimed Wilson was responsible for her own injuries, the woman’s lawyer, Robert Brown, slammed the agency. “They let Fraser be alone with Wilson — how could my client be culpable?” he said in a statement to The New York Post.
“The nerve of them to blame the victim when the video clearly shows Amanda Fraser and Aides At Home that hired her caused Wendy Wilson’s life-threatening injuries,” Brown added.
Fraser was arrested by the Nassau County Police Department hours after the stabbing.
Fraser was later indicted on one count of attempted murder in the second degree, two counts of assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree, two counts of endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person, and endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person.
However, her trial has not been scheduled. Talking about the delay in the trial, Wilson’s son, Kery Kilgannon, said, “As her family, we just want justice for Wendy. But the prosecutors have told us that it could be three to five years before we see a trial. Hard to believe that justice is so hard to come by.”
