Watch Lori Vallow's interview police in the immediate aftermath of her husband's death

Lori Vallow laughed then cried in a 20-minute interview with police moments after one of her husbands was shot dead.

It’s the latest insight in the mind of a woman who has allegedly left a trail of bodies in her wake, including two children. Vallow now faces criminal charges as more information about her past comes to light.

The case has become a national sensation as every new piece of evidence leads to more insight into Vallow’s past. The latest — police interviews in Arizona moments after her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, was killed in 2019.

“He said, ‘I’m a destroyer of families,’” Lori Vallow recounted in a police interview that was released by Chandler police last week. “Because I want people to get a divorce.”

Lori Vallow spoke of what Charles Vallow told her in 2019 one morning as was in her house. The fight happened before he was shot and killed. Lori Vallow started the conversation with investigators laughing and casually talking about the moring.

She told about how Charles fought with her stepdaughter Tylee Ryan in the past, but Charles got along well with their son JJ. The two children were later killed in Idaho and Lori Vallow and her current husband Chad Dayball have been charged in connection to their murders.

Lori Vallow told Chandler police that Charles was at the home to pick up JJ and a fight quickly ensued where Charles acted aggressively. Lori’s brother was also in the home. The relationship between Charles and Lori had been on the rocks and there had been physical altercations, but nothing too serious.

Lori Vallow told the police Charles was worried she would see whatever was on his phone and the fight continued. Charles had a baseball bat and made threats towards the other family members.

"He was just so angry,” Lori Vallow said, “like super scary.”

She left for a moment, heard a gunshot and then saw Charles on the ground.

“I was just freaking out,” Lori Vallow said. “I went into mom mode, I gotta get JJ to school. I gotta get to the kids. I gotta get to the kids.”

The kids, Tylee and JJ Vallow, were outside the home at the time of the shooting and near the car.

Tylee was also interviewed by police and said she woke up to her mother, uncle and stepdad fighting. She never got along with her stepdad and came out of her bedroom with a baseball bat.

“I thought he was going to hit her,” Tylee said about her stepdad.

Tylee said she got between her stepdad and mom as they continued to fight. At one point, she stuck the bat out and Charles wrestled it away. It was then she was told to go outside with her brother.

Outside, Tylee said she heard a noise that sounded like someone hit the bat really hard against the ground — she would later learn it was the gunshot. Almost immediately, her mom Lori came outside and took the kids to Burger King for breakfast and then to school.

Lori Vallow said her brother was standing over Charles after the shooting and she went to take the kids to Burger King. “We were both just in shock,” Lori Vallow said. “I didn’t know what to do. I was freaking out and wanted to get them away from the scene.”

A medical examiner determined that Charles Vallow had several gunshot wounds to the chest and stomach, according to Azcentral. Police questioned the family in the immediate aftermath, but no charges were filed.

That changed in June when Lori Vallow was indicted on charges of conspiracy to kill Charles Vallow, according to prosecutors. Her brother was not charged as he died in December 2019 from natural causes.

The police investigation into Charles Vlalow’s deaht was thrust back into the spotlight after Tylee and JJ were found murdered in summer 2000.

The children were last seen alive in September 2019 and their case. Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell left their Idaho home area as police questioned them in connection to the children’s whereabouts and the death of Tammy Daybell, who died a few days before Chad Daybell got remarried, according to media reports.

In May 2021, Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell were charged with murder in connection to the children’s death. Though, Lori Vallow has been found not competent to stand trial. Chad Daybell has also been charged with the murder of his ex-wife Tammy Daybell.
