The 44-year-old woman, Colleen Jo Matarico, has been convicted of r--- and abuse of teenagers. During the sentencing hearing, Matarico was handcuffed and wearing a blue jumpsuit and had her glasses on. However, her reaction to the sentencing shocked the court.
Matarico, who has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, was seen smiling, laughing, and nodding when the jail term was announced. The court also ordered Matarico not to contact her victim, Jeremiah, in any way, which included electronically or through a third party.
The 44-year-old had previously pleaded no contest to the charges of two counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14 years. Initially, she was charged with six other counts; however, they were dropped. Matarico only said “Good Morning” and “Yes” when asked by the court whether she understood her sentence during the hearing on April 27.

Seconds before she was taken away by authorities to serve her decade-long prison sentence, the attorney, Leonard Levine, was seen whispering something to her. Matarico was taken out of the courtroom by a bailiff. Levine later said that the court's outcome was very unfortunate.
The prosecutor revealed the details of Matarico’s offending, saying she began abusing the boy when he turned 13 years old. She had met the student when he was just 12 years old. Matarico had been working at John Burroughs Middle School at the time of the abuse.
The former educator referred to her teenage victim by the nickname “crystal meth.” Most of the abuse happened between August and November 2024, according to the criminal complaint.
According to CBS News reports, Matarico was arrested that November, and later her obsession with the boy was revealed. The deputy district attorney, Ariel Anson, read Instagram messages between Matarico and the victim.
“She indicates that she is in love with him, that he is the only one that she would go to jail for… and that he is her crystal meth,” Anson said.
Matarico was married at the time. She was also previously accused of providing marijuana to the boy and said she was going to leave her husband for the teenager.
Matarico has been a teacher for 25 years.
