Lost And Indecisive Chicken Blocks Traffic In Center Lane, Up Until Cops Come Up With A Twisted Plan

Police outside Pennsylvania deal with traffic crisis caused by a lost chicken
Just outside Pittsburgh, the Bethel Park Police Department responded to an unusual situation on May 29. The incident began after officers received a call about a traffic backup near 160 Drake Road. When police arrived at the scene, they were surprised to discover the culprit was a lost chicken wandering through the roadway.
According to reports, the bird stopped traffic in the center lane, causing several vehicles to slow down and proceed cautiously. Officers eventually rescued the chicken to restore order and allow traffic to return to normal. The police department later shared an update about the incident on social media.
Lost Chicken Leaves Cops To A Foot Pursuit
Deputies from the Bethel Park Police Department had to engage in a brief foot pursuit to rescue the chicken from the road. In what officers described as a “hilarious” turn of events, police eventually caught the bird and safely transported it to the station.
Authorities said they identified the chicken as an American Plymouth breed using Google. The breed is known for its docile nature and distinct barred feather patterns.
While officers actively searched for the chicken’s owner, the department jokingly offered the bird a new role within the force. In a witty social media post, police introduced the chicken as “Lt. McQuail,” the supervisor of the dispatch center.

Police Department Issues Witty Post On Lost Bird
Documenting the whole ordeal on social media, the Bethel Park Police Station dropped a witty post. They also shared a few pictures where the lost chicken could be seen dressed in an officer’s uniform as it posed with one of the deputies. The bird appeared safe and unharmed after being rescued promptly from the road.
The caption to the post read “FOUND CHICKEN…(no, seriously) A short time ago, our Officers responded to a report of fowl play near the area of 160 Drake Road. Upon arriving, a chicken was found to be roaming the center lane, blocking traffic…apparently indecisive as to whether or not to cross the road.”
Explaining the hilarious turn of events once the chicken was brought to the police department, they further wrote, “After a hilarious series of events and a short foot pursuit, the chicken was safely detained and transported back to the station. After a brief interrogation, she claimed that she was NOT blocking traffic…but rather directing it… Lt McQuail is now supervising our dispatch center for the time being, but she really needs to get home before the Chief finds out.”
The department also urged the general public or anyone with information to step forward if they were aware of the chicken’s owner. They remarked, “If you are missing what Google has identified as a Plymouth Rock variety chicken, please give us a call at 412-833-2000. She will be the one answering the phone.”
According to the Pennsylvania law, abandonment of an animal or bird is classified as a crime under state cruelty statutes. Moreover, if an individual ever spots an injured or abandoned bird on the road, it falls under their legal obligation not to cause it further harm or distress.
Authorized professionals must be contacted promptly for the species to be safely rescued. Alternatively, the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center could also be contacted immediately in such instances.
