8-year-old killed in shooting targeting another person, manhunt underway for suspected murderer
Police in Louisiana are searching for an alleged shooter who they believe took the life of an 8-year-old girl while targeting another person.
According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, the crime occurred when the child, Treyce Bryant, was riding in a car with her mother and a man shortly after 8 p.m. on March 22 in Houma.
Davonta Verret, 23, began following the trio in his vehicle and allegedly opened fire with the intention of gunning down the man. He instead hit Bryant, deputies said.
The child was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Investigators identified Verret as the alleged shooter after collecting surveillance video and speaking with witnesses, according to the Houma police department.
Police say investigators speculate the attack stemmed from an ongoing feud between the male passenger and Verret.
Authorities have issued a warrant for Verret’s arrest, and he is considered armed and dangerous. He is wanted on one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Anyone with information on Verret’s whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers Bayou Region at (800) 743-7433.
