An infant was found dead in a vehicle over the weekend and police say a Louisiana man has been arrested and booked with second-degree murder.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office was called the Intracoastal Bridge in Louisiana on May 8. Once deputies arrived, police said they found a baby dead inside the vehicle.
Investigators determined Ervin Melancon, 53, was a suspect and got a warrant for his arrest. Police did not say how the baby died.
KATC reported the cause of the infant’s death is still unknown. Reports reached out to the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office and they declined to give any further details on the victim, as the investigation is still ongoing.
Police also didn't reveal Melancon's relationship with the infant.
Deputies searched for Melancon on May 9, found him, and he was taken into custody, police said.
Melancon was booked into the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center and bail was set at $2 million, police said.
