The cause of death for rising rapper Luci4 has been confirmed as an accidental overdose, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. The artist was born James Dear and, unfortunately, passed away on February 20 at the age of 23.

Emergency crews from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical call at Luci4’s friend’s home during the morning of his death. According to the reports, when they arrived, Luci4 had already died.

News of his death has shocked fans and those close to the rapper, considering that his career had been gaining strong momentum in recent years.

According to TMZ, his manager, Kayla G, also shared an emotional tribute on her Instagram stories. In one post, she shared a photo of red roses and wrote, “The flowers you gave me and the songs you dedicated to me will always weigh so heavy in my heart. I’ll love you forever, axxturel.”

In another message, she reflected on their close bond, writing, “We were inseparable. And we will forever be bonded together. I’ll see you soon king.” She also called him one of the most important people in her life.

After his death, Luci4’s grandparents raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding it. They said his wallet had been “completely emptied” and that they had tried to warn him about people he had been spending time with as his popularity grew. They feared he may have been surrounded by the wrong crowd.

Luci4 originally rose to fame in 2021 after getting immense attention on TikTok. He became known for creating “sigilkore,” a niche subgenre of trap music that amassed a loyal base online. His unique sound and style eventually set him apart in the music scene.

Following his viral success, he also got a massive opportunity professionally. According to Billboard, he signed a deal with Atlantic Records after his track “BodPartz” became viral online.

After the reason for his death was revealed, many fans showed their concerns over rappers losing their lives at a young age. One wrote on X, “Another young artist gone. The underground keeps losing people before they ever get mainstream flowers.”

He continued to release music over the next few years. His latest album, “VampMania 3,” was released in 2025 and featured songs such as “NEVERSURRENDER,” “Otw,” “B4 the Storm,” and “Sleeve.”
