A California man has been arrested after he allegedly broke into condominiums in Nevada and started fondling women’s feets as they were sleeping, according to authorities.

In the early morning hours between July 1 and 3, a man allegedly entered two resort units through unlocked screen doors, “positioned himself at the foot of the bed” and rubbed two women’s feet, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Both of the victims reportedly woke up to the stranger at their bed, confronted him and then he fled the scene, police said.

Investigators were able to use “forensic techniques” to identify 26-year-old Mark Gonzales as the suspect, officials said.

On Aug. 1, authorities arrested Gonzales at his home on two counts of burglary and two counts of battery.

Gonzales was being held in the Merced County Jail as a fugitive on a $50,000 bond and expected to be extradited to Douglas County, Nevada, authorities said.

Investigators said Gonzales allegedly committed a series of crimes in California, “including the theft of women’s shoes, trespassing and sexual self-gratification during some of these incidents.”

Officials noted Gonzales’ alleged crimes were “escalating in nature.”

“These types of crimes are especially alarming to a community, and being able to make an arrest allows the victims and community to feel safe again," Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley said.
