A Washington state man had claimed that an intruder stabbed him and his wife during an incident of home invasion. The woman has died as a result of the stabbing. However, the police are now pointing the finger at the man after reviewing surveillance footage.

A Washington state man had claimed that an intruder stabbed him and his wife during an incident of home invasion

The 41-year-old man, Kyle Cathcart, was arrested on May 4th in connection with the death of his wife, who is identified as Jodi Cathcart. According to the probable cause affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime, the King County sheriff’s office responded to a call at the couple’s home located at Covington, Washington, on May 1st after receiving a call regarding an incident of home invasion.

After the responding officers arrived at the location, they found Jodi Cathcart was already dead, they had multiple stab wounds. Kyle, who made the 911 call, had non-life-threatening injuries and told the police authorities that he fought the intruder who attacked him and his wife. Upon their arrival, the authorities noticed a Ring camera at the front door.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Kyle Cathcart told the authorities that around 6 in the morning on May 4th, he heard his wife scream his name. When Cathcart went to check on his wife, he said he came face-to-face with a man wearing a dark hoodie. The police wrote that Cathcart said the attacker was around the same height and weight as he was and had blue eyes.

Cathcart said that he saw the intruder stab his wife, at which point he sought to fight the intruder, according to the police. He then claimed that the intruder started poking him in the stomach, causing small “superficial scratches” to his abdomen. As the two men continued to fight, Cathcart said that the intruder hit him in the face and slammed him into the door to the garage, at which point he lost consciousness, and the intruder got away. Cathcart then said he called 911 after he regained consciousness.

The affidavit states that the police then asked to see the Ring camera footage to identify the intruder as he entered the house. Cathcart agreed to share the footage from that morning; however, police then determined that no one had entered the house. The person seen exiting the Cathcart home was wearing a black hoodie, the tag on the back white, indicating the shirt was inside out.

The authorities then asked Cathcart whether he had realized that the intruder was the same height and weight as him, and whether he had any clothing similar to the suspect's. Cathcart, however, denied that he would hurt his wife, and he denied that he would hurt his wife and said he did not own black sweat pants. However, he admitted to owning sweatshirts.
