A man in Oregon was sentenced to prison on charges of manslaughter after he got into a confrontation with a stranger in front of his family and friends. Left embarrassed, he shot that stranger 9 times in the back in July 2024.
The records also detail how a minor tussle on the side of the road led to a man losing his life, and another will spend the next decade in jail.
Confrontation Leads to Deadly Shooting
Man sentenced to ten years in prison for fatal shooing in Oregon
Cresencio Flores, 27, was enjoying a balmy summer morning outside his apartment building in Portland with his friends, when another group of people came up to the neighborhood. Among the newcomers was 45-year-old Jacob Forrest. This would be the first and last time Forrest and Flores ever met.
During the hearing, the prosecution submitted the surveillance tape. It showed Forrest getting out of his car with his three other friends. Footage clearly showed that Forrest was carrying what looked like a firearm.
However, it was later determined to be a near-perfect replica of an original and was in fact fake.
Footage also showed Flores and Forrest exchanging some heated words. This led to Forrest slapping Flores and throwing his bike onto the street. After that, Forrest can be seen walking away.
Shooting to Avenge His Honor
Court Records also showed that embarrassed Flores took out his own gun and aimed at Forrest. He then shot Forrest nine times in the back. Responding officers found Forrest dead on the scene.
After the investigation, Flores was arrested two months after the incident. Flores claimed that during the confrontation, he feared for his life and did not know that Forrest's firearm was fake.
He also claimed that he was furious and believed that Forrest was trying to embarrass him in front of his friends.

Deal and Sentencing
Flores was originally charged with First-degree murder. However, the prosecution negotiated a deal with Flores, and his charges were reduced to first-degree manslaughter. Prosecutors and defence attorneys accepted the plea deal.
At the hearing in Multnomah County Circuit Court, both sides agreed that under the circumstances, a deal was appropriate.
Flores was sentenced to 10 years in prison by County Judge Christopher Ramras. Flores made no statement during the hearing.
Questions About Violence and Self-Defense
The case is the perfect example of how minor confrontations and arguments turn deadly when short tempers and firearms are involved. Even when one party claims self-defence, it is important to understand the concept of disproportionate response.
A minor argument or brawl should not lead to a man getting shot nine times on his back.
Experts often talk about the importance and need for de-escalation skills and learning how to keep one's temper in check.
