Police approached Williams as he tried to break into Fields’ vehicle, authorities said.

He ran and pulled a handgun, police said. A Cambridge police officer fired their weapon, wounding the suspect.

Williams was taken to the hospital for treatment and then charged. The officer’s shooting remains under investigation.
