The case of Lindsay Clancy in the death of her three children has taken a surprising turn. The 35-year-old Massachusetts woman is facing a murder trial in Plymouth County after getting indicted for strangling and then subsequently killing her minor kids.

Lindsay, who was a labor and delivery nurse, used exercise bands to strangle her children-Cora, aged 5, Dawson, aged 3 and 8-months old Callan. While the elder two were pronounced dead at the hospital, her youngest child passed away a few days later.

Murderer mom Lindsay Clancy has one condition to admit her crime

According to a report, Clancy’s attorney Kevin Reddington filed a motion with the court, which stated that the accused was willing to admit to the crime. However, she would only do so if the judge permits a bifurcated trial format in the case.

The motion further read “The defendant states that the issue of the actions that resulted in the death of the decedents in the indictments at the bar is not a live issue and the defendant is willing to stipulate formally in writing to her involvement.”

However, the defense attorney also explained the implications if Lindsay admits her involvement in the crime. Reddington explained, “the only live issue for consideration at trial would be the defendant's state of mind as it relates to the defense of lack of criminal responsibility.”

The new motion submitted to the court had already been dismissed by judges. Previously, the defense argued for two separate trials for Clancy, one to determine if she was guilty and the other to determine if she had criminal responsibility for her actions.

Lindsay Clancy’s Insanity Defense

One of the primary arguments presented by the defense was that the 35-year-old had been experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time of the incident.

Back in December, Lindsay’s attorney stated his intention to seek an insanity defense as a result. The defense further noted that the accused was prescribed 15 medications in the months before the deaths.

On the other hand, prosecutors have argued that Lindsay’s actions were carefully plotted. They said she strangled her three children after sending her husband, Patrick, away from home to pick up dinner.

Lindsay Clancy has one major condition in murder trial

Lindsay is expected to undergo a forensic psychological evaluation soon. It follows defense attorney Kevin Reddington’s claims that his client wishes to plead not guilty by reason of insanity during the murder trial. After this, Clancy is expected to appear in court at the next hearing on April 23.

Meanwhile, Lindsay Clancy’s husband issued a statement after the deaths of their children. Instead of anger, he said he forgave her for her actions. Patrick also urged others to forgive his wife in connection with the deaths of their children.

An excerpt from his statement read, “I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have. The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring towards everyone — me, our kids, family, friends, and her patients. The very fibers of her soul are loving. All I wish for her now is that she can somehow find peace."
