While officers were treating Poulino-Martinez’s wound, police claimed he allegedly said: “I assassinated her.”

He then indicated a nearby apartment, where officers found the door ajar, according to WREG.

Inside the residence, police reportedly noted multiple blood-covered kitchen knives and signs of a struggle. They followed a blood trail to a bedroom, where the victim, identified as Keiry Brito-Mella, was located unresponsive.

WREG reported Brito-Mella suffered multiple cuts, including too her head, neck and back. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Poulino-Martinez was transported to an area hospital and booked three days later into the Shelby County jail.

He currently faces a first-degree murder charge.
