Memphis man accused of triple murder allegedly claims ‘the devil made him do it’
A Tennessee man who allegedly shot four people, killing three, reportedly apologized to his landlord for “messing up his house.”
On June 27, eyewitnesses claimed to authorities Jermel Cortez Keaton, 32, attacked one roommate on the porch of their Memphis home and shot another in a bed, according to WATE-TV. It’s unclear where the third victim was murdered.
The landlord called police and said his tenant, Keaton, wanted to turn himself in for the shooting.
Keaton allegedly told investigators he “just lost it” after someone threatened him, the station reported.
Keaton’s girlfriend claimed he had been asking the state for help leading up to the deadly incident.
“He’s been telling them that he’s crazy, that he hears people inside of his mind,” she allegedly told a WREG reporter.
“He said that the devil made him do it,” she added.
Keaton faces charges of three counts of murder, attempted murder and employment of a firearm during a dangerous felony. He is being held in a Shelby County jail on $3 million bond.
