Man accused in murder of Michigan woman, intentionally causing miscarriage

A man has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed a woman, intentionally causing her to have a miscarriage, police said.
Around 1:20 p.m. Aug. 8, Grand Rapids, Michigan, police responded to the 1400 block of Burke Avenue for a report of a shooting.
A 24-year-old victim, later identified as Marissa Leigh Valdez, was located inside the apartment, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She died at the scene, according to Grand Rapids police.

A male suspect, identified as Dealeyon Jaishawn Franklin, 24, was still at the scene and was taken into custody without incident, according to police.
Cops say Valdez and Franklin knew each other. But, authorities have not released what led to the shooting.
Franklin has been charged with homicide, assaulting a pregnant person causing miscarriage or stillbirth and felony firearm.
He is being held at the Kent County Correctional Facility without bond.
