A Minnesota-based man has been accused of extreme parental negligence that resulted in the death of his infant son. On Monday, 26-year-old Omni Maxx Morningstar was arrested by police after he left his 10-month-old son to suffocate and die under heavy blankets.
Baby Remington became overheated and developed a high temperature after his father left him under a pile of heavy blankets in another room. Morningstar was busy playing games online in his Mankato home, forgetting to check on his son for over five hours.
Minnesota Man’s Extreme Negligence Of His Son
Based on court documents obtained by the Minnesota Star Tribune, the father had put his son down for a nap at 11 a.m. on the fateful day. Five hours later, at around 3:55 p.m., Morningstar finally got up to check on the child. He found Remington unresponsive and overheated in the bed, which prompted him to call the police.
When the authorities arrived at home, they found that the infant’s body temperature had risen to an alarming 104.7 degrees. The baby’s bed was found covered with several heavy blankets, all of which weighed roughly 20 pounds. His hands and legs were cold while his chest and abdomen were warm.
Despite life-saving efforts by the first responders, the child was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The father, Omni Maxx Morningstar, claimed he was wearing headphones and chatting in his room, while his son suffocated. He admitted to not checking on his son for all five hours that he spent playing Discord with his friends.

He revealed that his son had a history of fevers and colic, and that the infant had multiple hospital visits previously. Regretting his inaction, Omni Maxx told the cops, “I’m thinking in my head, like five hours, huh. I really do wish I had checked on him.”
Legal Proceedings Against The Accused Father
The infant’s mother accused Morningstar of similar prior action. She revealed that Morningstar had left their son alone and covered with a king-size blanket almost a month back.
At that time, too, he had admitted his mistake and said he forgot about the child while playing games online. At that time, the baby was saved after his mother returned home and discovered the situation. The child had a soaring body temperature of 104-105 degrees as a result.
The infant’s autopsy by a medical examiner has determined that the child passed away due to asphyxia. It was caused by the heavy compression from the weighted blanket that he was placed under.
Omni Maxx Morningstar was charged with second-degree murder. He is being held at the Blue Earth County Jail and is scheduled to be presented in court on April 16. Since Morningstar was found financially ineligible to hire a lawyer, he has applied for a public defender.
