Minnesota Teen Disappears While Waiting in Car For Dad to Return From Inside Store — 'You Don't Expect Them to Vanish'

In August 1989, Amy Pagnac was sitting in a car in Minnesota waiting for her father. He ran to a bathroom at a convenience store, and when he came back, the 13-year-old was gone.

"You don't expect them to vanish, and the last thing you ever expect is not only did they vanish, but you don't see or hear from them again for 30 years," her mother, Susan Pagnac, told a Minnesota TV station years later.

But that's precisely what happened. Now, almost 35 years later, police still have no clue what happened to Amy Pagnac.

According to Fox 9, Pagnac went with her dad to the family's farm in Isanti County, Minnesota. On the way back, the dad made a pit stop and when he came back, Amy was gone.

Officials said she may have had a seizure and been disoriented. She also required medication for allergies. But the police had no clue where she went or where she is today.

"She would not have stayed gone. She was quite happy, she was looking forward to starting eighth grade,” Susan Pagnac told Fox 9 in 2019.

According to KARE, the case is not classified as a runaway. But investigators have little evidence. In 2014, investigators searched the family’s properties again, but it created few leads. And fewer answers.

Now, after three decades without knowing what happened to Amy, her mother is still hopeful to get answers.

"She just needs help," Susan Pagnac told KARE. "The public can make a difference."

The mom added that she is hoping someone who knew Amy might remember something that can help police solve the decades-old missing person case.

"They could come forward, and maybe say where they met," Susan Pagnac said. "Maybe they saw something that's important."
