A woman in Minnesota has admitted to killing her 3-month-old son after claiming she was hearing voices, which led to her grabbing a knife and cutting the baby's throat.

On Aug. 2, Fardoussa Omar Abdillahi, 28, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder with intent and Judge Sarah Hennesy dismissed a first-degree murder charge, Lakes Area Radio reported.

In the courtroom, Abdillahi testified that she was hearing voices on Nov. 27th and 28th, 2021, officials said.

She said the voices were telling her to strap her son into a car seat and leave him in her car outside. Abdillahi told the court she complied, but she then became worried and went to retrieve him from the vehicle.

Abdillahi said hours later she started hearing the voices again and grabbed a knife and cut her son’s throat, authorities said.

She put the child’s body in a trash bag and threw it away in the garbage. Abdillahi then called her mother and told her what happened.

Investigators said they found the child’s body, knives and bloody bedding in a dumpster behind the woman’s apartment building.

Abdillahi has undergone multiple mental health examinations and has been ruled competent to stand trial, Lake Areas Radio reported.

She is to be sentenced on Oct. 18 and guidelines call for her to serve between 21 and 30 years in prison, officials said.

Defense attorneys say they will cite mental illness as to why she should serve less time behind bars.
