A Florida couple’s family made a shocking discovery after finding them dead in their bedroom on April 6. Jarrott Strickland, 44, and his wife, Lorelei Strickland, 40, died from gunshot wounds in an alleged murder-suicide case in Wewahitchka.
The deaths came to light when Lorelei failed to show up at work. Concerned co-workers asked authorities to conduct a welfare check. When Gulf Coast Sheriff’s Department officials arrived at the Strickland residence, no one answered the door.
However, deputies found no signs of suspicious activity or foul play and left to search for Lorelei at other locations. They also returned to her workplace to gather more information about her possible whereabouts.

Meanwhile, Jarrott and Lorelei’s family members and friends were able to enter the home. They found both of them dead in their bedroom. Deputies were called back to the residence and confirmed that both Jarrott and Lorelei died of gunshot wounds.
Authorities said the couple had been dead for some time. According to the sheriff’s department, investigators found no signs of forced entry into the home. The initial probe suggests that Jarrott shot his wife before taking his own life. The motive behind the apparent murder-suicide remains unclear.
The Gulf Coast Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the case, and more details are expected to emerge. The couple is survived by their two sons, daughters-in-law and two grandchildren.
The family has released obituaries for both Jarrott and Lorelei. “Jarrott was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and delighted in collecting baseball memorabilia, a passion that brought joy not only to himself but also to those who shared his interest,” the obituary said.
The family further revealed that Jarrott loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
As for Lorelei, she has been described as someone who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. “Throughout her life, Lorelei found solace and pleasure in everyday activities such as walking and reading, pursuits that reflected her thoughtful and contemplative nature. She harbored a particular fondness for Dunkin' Coffee, which accompanied many of her quiet mornings, and she was an avid listener of podcasts,” the family said.
Lorelei’s Co-Workers Say She was Like a Family to Them
Lorelei’s co-workers, who requested the welfare check, are also mourning her loss. The colleagues have started a GoFundMe to cover her funeral costs. “She was more than just a coworker—she was family,” her colleagues wrote on the campaign page.
“A light in our workplace, a friend in our community, and a deeply loved member of her family. Her kindness, laughter, and genuine spirit touched everyone she met, and her absence has left a space that can never truly be filled,” they added.
The campaign has so far collected over $5,100 of its $5,500 target.
