He lived in a family's basement and got help with his music career. But then killed them all during a robbery.

Four people, including a 10-year-old, were found murdered in a Missouri home in 2017. Police arrested a man who lived with them and accused him of murder.

Now, that man will never see freedom again.

This month, a Missouri judge sentenced Ja’Vone Dupree to four life sentences for killings, according to KMOV. Dupree was convicted of four counts of first-degree murder and other charges for the August 2017 killings.

Deandre Kelly, 18, Patricia Seward, 56, were both killed. Seward’s sons Joseph Corely, 20, and Terrence Dehart, 10, were also murdered.

Dupree was close with Steward and Corely and stayed with the family at their St. Louis County, Missouri, home, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Steward was a music producer and worked with Dupree on rap songs.

Steward slept in the family’s basement, where Steward stored her designer clothing and shoes, according to the Post-Dispatch.

Steward’s daughter, Juanita Lee, testified she couldn’t reach her mother on the morning of the shooting and went to the family’s home. Lee called police after she saw her mom’s car was missing, the Post-Dispatch reported.

“I felt like something was wrong,” Lee said, according to police.

Investigators say Dupree shot each of the victims and robbed them of electronics and clothing. He also picked up multiple shell casings and fled the scene in the victim’s car with the stolen goods.

Dupree had three pairs of shoes when he was arrested, the Post-Dispatch reported. The shoes matched numbers on shoe boxes left at the murder scene.

St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell released a statement after Dupree was sentenced, KMOV reported.

“The conduct in this case speaks for itself - this was the heinous execution of a family,” Bell said. “Their lives were taken in their beds while they slept, the one place where they should have been safe, and all for greed. There is nothing here but stolen futures, but at least these maximum sentences bring closure.”
