A man in Missouri has been arrested after he was accused of punching a hospital worker in the face when the employee asked him if he wanted any food.

On Sept. 26, Cody Hess, 30, was a patient in the emergency department at St. Louis' Mercy Hospital when the hospital worker came into his room and asked him if he wanted to eat, according to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Officials said Hess then allegedly made a fist and punched the worker in the face.

The alleged incident caused the worker to develop problems speaking.

Hess, who was arrested and charged with third-degree assault, was being held on a $100,000 bond.

In a statement, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell said, “Emergency Department personnel are appropriately classified as special victims in Missouri, and we will do all we can to protect them in St. Louis County and to hold accountable anyone who attacks those whose work is to serve the public.”
