Mom, Boyfriend Face Charges After Beating 10-Year-Old With Boxing Gloves ‘As Punishment’

Amber Lynn Raymond, 31, is charged with felony child endangerment and gross misdemeanor counts of malicious punishment of a child and child neglect.
A 31-year-old Minnesota woman Amber Lynn Raymond has been charged with felony child endangerment in connection with the alleged assault of a 10-year-old child. She also faces gross misdemeanor counts of malicious punishment of a child and child neglect.
Authorities said Raymond and her boyfriend, Basil Neil Woods, 25, assaulted the child in a bedroom on February 1. In a video obtained by the Maplewood police, Woods is seen repeatedly punching the girl. Investigators said Woods wore a mask and lightweight gloves “that do not appear to have a lot of padding”.
Raymond allegedly “acknowledged awareness of the assault against (the victim) and said she was present and witnessed it,” according to a criminal complaint.
“She also acknowledged she helped Woods plan the assault (victim)," the complaint said. "The gloves were used because they were playing around and boxing.”
What Happened?
According to the complaint, Woods approached the girl and “punched the child in the area of her right shoulder. He immediately punched her again with his left fist in the buttocks and immediately again hit her with his right fist in the right arm."
“No! Ow!” the young girl screams in the video.

Home in Unsanitary Conditions, Investigators Say
Investigators searched the property on February 4 and found the home in severe disarray with animal waste matter littering the floor in multiple locations. “Yellow urine was visible on all floor tiles and dark, wet stains were on carpeted areas. The home smelled of cigarettes, garbage, and waste matter,” investigators said.
“The kitchen was piled with dishes and decayed food. There was a lock on the refrigerator door. In the kitchen, the ceiling was leaking dirty water. Two pots were on a chair below the leak. A baby bouncy chair was coated with a dry brown-orange debris. The corners of the living room had piles of animal waste. There was a large, clear storage container with cat litter on the bottom and several piles of waste in front of the television.”
Police said there were around 15 cats, a small dog and a turtle in a tank filled with green water inside the home.
While Woods was arrested on February 3, Raymond is scheduled to appear in court on February 26.
