A 34-year-old woman, Stephany L. Mogg, in Michigan, has been sentenced to one year in prison on February 23 for allegedly giving drugs to her three children. Mogg allegedly gave her children THC-infused gummies during overnight stays. She gave the drugs so that she could 'calm' them and Mogg could enjoy some 'personal time'.
Court Proceedings
Saginaw County Circuit Judge Manvel Trice III, on February 23 ordered Mogg to spend 12 months in a correctional facility for repeatedly providing drugs to her children, according to court records.
Trice handed down the sentence after Mogg reached a deal with the prosecutors in January 2026 and pleaded no contest to three counts of felony third-degree child abuse. The judge credited Mogg for the five days she had already served in the correctional facility. After completing her sentence, Mogg must complete two years of probation and refrain from using drugs and alcohol.
“After they had these gummies, they experienced uncontrolled laughing, giggling, hunger and drowsiness,” Trice said, according to MLive. “They experienced difficulty functioning at school, fortunately, the outcome here was not more severe than that. Certainly it does not lessen the seriousness of the conduct.”
Trice added “My understanding is she did so so that she could calm them down while she had some personal time.”
Mogg’s attorney emphasized that his client was taking accountability for her actions and attempting to rebuild her relationship with her children. Following the proceedings, Mogg who had been free on a personal recognizance bond, was taken into custody to begin her sentence.
The case began months after Mogg was granted overnight visits with the children. Authorities issued a warrant for Mogg's arrest in August 2025.
Mogg’s children were 6,10 and 11 years old when they were drugged by their mother, according to MLive. The children's father, Mogg’s ex-husband, had custody. Mogg had recently been granted overnight visits.
The investigation began in 2025, when the father called 911 and filed a child abuse complaint. According to the Michigan State Police, the father called on March 10, 2025, to reported suspected abuse by his ex-wife.
The father reportedly told investigators the children were “giggly” and behaved unusually after he picked them up from Mogg’s home. When asked about this, the children said that their mother gave them THC infused gummies. All three children were taken to a nearby facility and tested positive for THC.
