Monk, 66, Accused Of Sexual Contact With A Student At School, Now Faces Several Charges

A monk is accused of abusing a former student and now finds himself in handcuffs, according to a report.

On April 27, police in Aurora, Illinois, announced the arrest of Joseph J. Charron, 66. He was also known as “Brother Andre.”

In September 2021, police took a report from a former student who detailed numerous sexual encounters. Charron is also a teacher at Marmion Academy, police noted.

Charron continued his non-consensual sexual contact with the student after graduation, according to Aurora police.

When the academy learned of the allegations, they put Charron on leave, according to police. He was barred from the school and not allowed to participate in ministerial functions. Police say an investigation by the school is ongoing.

Investigators spoke to several witnesses and collected evidence.

Charron was arrested and charged with three counts of criminal sexual assault, three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and two counts of criminal sexual abuse.

Police have not determined if Charron allegedly had contact with other students. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact police at (630) 256-5500.
